Born in 1958, Tommy Jackson was raised in Chinle, Arizona by his Navajo jewelry-making parents. Following in their footsteps, Tommy took silversmithing lessons from them. Though he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, Tommy continued to be attracted to the jewelry-making process – one that requires both technical acuity and creative foresight.
Utilizing both silver and gold, Tommy Jackson began creating stunning works of art. His silversmithing skill is apparent in the intricately detailed metal work. Vibrant stones add a level of boldness, while textured metal adds an antique feel to some of his pieces.
Not letting his Education degree go to waste, Tommy Jackson teaches Navajo children a variety of subjects at the Wide Ruins Community School. It is this kind of community involvement that establishes Tommy as not just an artist, but a humanitarian as well.
