Simple twists of fate can product the most astonishing results. Born a Navajo, Wes Willie initially worked as a contract welder and pipeliner. It was during this time Wes cultivated the skills necessary to become a master jewelry-maker. By the time made the transition to jewelry, he’d learned enough about metal to be able to apply this knowledge elsewhere. Metalwork, however, is not the only skill necessary to produce astonishing colorful jewelry. Exclusive training by a world class jeweler in the art of inlay further prepared him for his artistic endeavors. The final element – Divine intervention, as Wes calls it – allows his creativity to flow through him into his jewelry.
Wes Willy is no stranger to gold or silver and he has created beautiful works of art in both. His use of southwestern colors is breathtaking and his designs bold. What really sets Wes Willie apart from other artists, however, is his ability to break his own mold. His style changes and shifts between each of his pieces, leaving one to wonder what he will create next.
Wes Willie has been featured by Southwest Art Magazine, and has claimed top awards in multiple categories in the Santa Fe Indian Market. Equally amongst his achievements are his humanitarian efforts. Not only does Wes mentor apprentices, he is a member of the Southwest Foundation, the profits of which serve to better the community.
